Making homemade prezels

A few friends on my parenting board were making pretzels and I thought this would be a good and fun snack for Bethany and I to try. We love pretzels. So we tried their recipe but for some reason it just wouldn't work. They were really hard, falling apart and just not a good pretzel. I'm sure it was something I did. I did find this recipe from Pillsbury on the back of the flour. We usually use whole wheat but for some reason I just like the unbleached white for pretzels.
Did you know you need to boil the pretzels in a baking soda bath for 15 seconds a side? I sure didn't. It's magic though watching them puff up. Bethany thought that was the neatest thing ever.
Bethany wanted her pretzels to be cinnamon and sugar. I preferred the sea salt and Parmesan. We had some left over light cheese sauce from dinner and wow did that make a great dipping sauce!
We were having fun making different shapes.
Next week is craft day at Karla's so I plan on making these along with some Wisconsin Beer Cheese Soup. I think the girls will enjoy them!! (Click on the link above to print the pretzel recipe!) Enjoy!!

These look wonderful!! There is no way they can be as good as your marshmallows, but on the other hand, you do have some great skills, so maybe... So far all the stuff you've made to bring has been really yummy, I can't wait!
